"How do you make your ugly Christmas sweaters?" That's a question we get asked a lot, so we wanted to take you behind the scenes to show you how we go from initial concept to fully produced Christmas sweater. Today we're going to be looking at Back to the Presents.
Concept
We are huge Back to the Future fans. I’ve known every word to that movie since I was probably 5 years old. We even have the USA Today Newspaper that they printed in 2015 to commemorate the second movie framed in our offices. So when we were breaking our designs this year, we wanted to pay homage to one of the best movies of all time.
Here’s our initial inspo graphic and notes. We had visions of the Delorean decked out like Santa’s sleigh, mid-air.
Sketch
The first step in the design process is to create a sketch. This way we can make adjustments before we get too far down the road.
The first draft is pretty basic, but let us know right away that we were on the right track.
Front Panel Design
We moved on to the full front panel design, and looked at the difference between the Delorean on the ground in a snowy scene and flying in the air.
We added some final touches and finished the front panel design.
Finalized Design
Then we designed the sleeves to emulate the arrow in the original Back to the Future logo.
Then we put everything together to complete the sweater.
And there you have it! That's the story behind our Back to the Presents sweater.
